Top Easter Eggs in games from 2011 to 2021 – 8Bit’s subjective choice

The very first ever recorded video games Easter Eggs date back to 1979. They can be found in Atari’s Adventure game. It was extremely simple – you had to find a gray pixel. That pixel acted as a key to opening a secret door that revealed the message “Created by Warren Robinett,” the developer of Adventure. Back then, video-game developers weren’t listed in credits, so Robinett inserted his byline into the game. Even though it was so simple, it had a huge impact on the industry that continues hiding various surprises till this day!

For the newbies to the topic of Easter Eggs, these are hidden video game features or surprises. Easter Eggs are usually unlocked by using certain techniques to complete in-game tasks, entering specific button combinations or acquiring access to secret locations. In other words these are gifts for the most persistent players who are willing to hunt for them in the game.

#5 Borderlands 2 – Minecraft Easter Egg

Ahh, Borderlands 2 – one of the best FPS games released in 2012. It’s stuffed with a never-ending action, a total mayhem, a great storyline and numerous Easter Eggs. Including Minecraft one. This particular Easter Egg involves a hidden Minecraft area in the Caustic Caverns available only after completing Chapter 9 of Borderlands 2. There are Creepers and Badass Creepers as well as breakable blocks that drop Eridium and loot. Who wouldn’t be happy killing a Creeper with a rocket launcher or a machine gun instead of a diamond sword? We’re in for the massacre!

#4 Hitman 3 – Potato Jesus

Ecce Homo translated as Behold the Man or as it’s more commonly known, Potato Jesus, might just be the most popular piece of art of the past decade. A 2012 restoration of an otherwise unremarkable religious fresco from the 1930s that went extremely wrong and brought it to international attention. IOI couldn’t resist the temptation and ‘the masterpiece’ appeared in the game hidden in an old closet. #3 Grand Theft Auto V – Bigfoot

The Legend of Bigfoot has long been a matter of discussion in the history of Grand Theft Auto. Many traveled through GTA: San Andreas to find the mythical beast, but unfortunately no hard evidence has been found that it actually exists. Rockstar took matters into their own hands, and introduced the big furry Sasquatch nine years later in Grand Theft Auto 5. You can find it in the mission ‘Predator’ with your thermal scope.

#2 The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – Altair Accident

In Assassin’s Creed games, we’ve always kind of accepted that jumping into a bale of hay from, like, 30 stories up was a safe way to escape danger. Well, in The Witcher 2, it seems that Geralt of Rivia has discovered it not to be. Most of the assassins would not make it in the world created by CDPR. Now we understand why Geralt prefers to be a Witcher. Poor Altair… Requiescat in Pace.

#1 Cyberpunk 2077 – Hideo Kojima

Some of our favorite video games Easter Eggs are from Cyberpunk 2077! And the invincible #1 is Hideo Kojima cameo. During a mission called The Heist you check into a hotel with Jackie as a part of a plan for a certain big job you’re on. You have to look around the hotel bar a little to find him. There are probably more than 100 cool Easter Eggs in Cyberpunk 2077 alone, but it’s because of Master Kojima’s appearance that this one appealed to us the most.
